This year February 18th marks our 10th anniversary, and we celebrated with a trip to Lake Tahoe. We stayed at the north end of the lake in Incline Village, sharing the same house as last year with some friends, and skied 3 days at Diamond Peak.
We had kind of an ordeal on the way up on Wednesday, and spent 5 hours with chains on moving less than 30 miles an hour through the ice and snow on interstate 80. I think now it was definitely worth it but 9 hours in the car for a 3.5 hour trip was kind of tiresome at the time.
The skiing was really fantastic because it dumped snow for two days and the powder was knee deep in the woods (qualification: knee deep on a 7 year old). I admit that it gets a little challenging trying to keep track of Robert (7) and Erick (4) simultaneously, as you will see in the videos posted below. When little Katerina gets added to the mix it will really get interesting.
Here is Erick on the first day. We got him a private lesson and that really increased his confidence. -- 2009.02.14 Diamond Peak 061.JPG
By the end of the trip, Erick was able to handle "Show Off" without any help. Show Off is a black diamond expert trail that is directly in front of the main lodge and easy for everyone hanging out on the porch to see. -- 2009.02.14 Diamond Peak 069.JPG
This is Erick and the view just after getting off the Crystal Express chairlift, which takes you to the highest point on the mountain. -- 2009.02.14 Diamond Peak 035.JPG

Robert in the snow. Each night it dumped lots of snow, and Robert and I would go into the woods every chance we could find to search for fresh powder. -- 2009.02.14 Diamond Peak 009.JPG

TO ensure that you don't think Robert spent all his time lying down, here is some action footage of him skiing in the woods. We had great fun skiing in the woods, especially with all the new snow. (press the play button on the embedded video player).
While the boys and I were skiing, Larissa was keeping Katerina entertained. She takes alot of running after. -- 2009.02.14 Diamond Peak 114.JPG
Another picture of Katerina. She stopped running around just long enough to capture these two pictures. -- 2009.02.14 Diamond Peak 109.JPG
She doesnt look all the pleased here, but this is one of the few pictures of me. -- 2009.02.14 Diamond Peak 127.JPG
After skiing on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, we decided to do something different and went sledding on Sunday. It maybe would not have been a good day for skiing anyway, because the snow was really coming down. Larissa finally had a chance to have some fun and made two runs with Katerina and several more with the boys. -- 2009.02.15 Diamond Peak 013.JPG

And here is the same picture with the flash so you can see the snow. -- 2009.02.15 Diamond Peak 064.JPG
On the way back we spent some time moving very slowly through the pass where everyone had to put chains on tires. I let Katerina drive for a while. -- 2009.02.15 Diamond Peak 077.JPG
And finally some movies of the boys skiing. Erick is now able to go down any intermediate run without help.
To get an idea of what it is like to ski with those two, I give you this video of crossing Robert and Erick. There is also a "wood-in". Once or twice Robert cut a little too close and Erick payed the price, but you don't see that in this movie.
